Ban driven grouse shooting – we pass 47,000 signatures
Our Ban Driven Grouse Shooting petition is flying with over 47,000 signatures.
Thank you to all who have signed – here is the link https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/700036
Since the Westminster petitions process reopened after the general election, 1286 petitions have been submitted of which 666 have been rejected as not meeting the criteria for such petitions and 620 petitions have been published. Of those 620 petitions, only 37 have so far passed the 10,000 signature threshold which generates a response from government (see below for more on this).
Of those 620 published petitions (and of the current top 37 which have passed 10,000 signatures) the ‘Ban driven grouse shooting’ petition is 11th most signed. Here are the top 11 and three more environmental petitions further down the list;
- 1. Call a general election 3million signatures
- 2. Suspend all immigration for 5 years 207,000 signatures
- 3. WASPI women 154,000 signatures
- 4. Don’t change inheritance tax on farms 146,000 signatures
- 5. Make 16 years the minimum age for children to have social media 124,000 signatures
- 6. Don’t apply VAT to independent school fees 114,000 signatures
- 7. License use of fireworks 85,000 signatures
- 8. Apply to join EU 65,000 signatures
- 9. Reverse changes to Winter Fuel Payment 58,000 signatures
- 10. Decriminalise abortion 51,000 signatures

- 13. End the Badger cull 44,000 signatures
- 20. Ban fossil fuel advertising and sponsorship 27,000 signatures
- 24. Run a public information campaign on climate crisis 22,000 signatures
Thanks to you, the ban driven grouse shooting petition is currently the highest-ranking environmental petition and is up there with issues such as taxation, immigration, social media, Brexit and, yes, fireworks. Wild Justice aims to keep that petition racing along (with occasional pauses while we do other things) and reach 100,000 signatures by 22 May – in precisely four months time.
Here’s the signature map, by Westminster constituency, which shows where the signatures come from (as of yesterday evening):

Here are the 12 top-scoring constituencies with over 200 signatures each:
Derbyshire Dales (Lab) 303 signatures
High Peak (Lab) 268 signatures
Skipton and Ripon (Con) 262 signatures
Sheffield Hallam (Lab) 252 signatures
Westmorland and Lonsdale (LibDem) 227 signatures
Thirsk and Malton (Con) 220 signatures
Ceredigion Preseli (Plaid) 217 signatures
