Ban driven grouse shooting petition – 10 February update

Our Ban Driven Grouse Shooting petition is flying with very nearly 62,000 signatures.

Thank you to all who have signed – here is the link https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/700036

Since the Westminster petitions process reopened after the general election, 1,638 petitions have been submitted of which 844 have been rejected as not meeting the criteria for such petitions and 794 petitions have been published. Of those 794 petitions, only 47 have so far passed the 10,000 signature threshold which generates a response from government (see below for more on this).

Of those 794 published petitions (and of the current top 47 which have passed 10,000 signatures) the ‘Ban driven grouse shooting’ petition is 12th most signed. Here are the top 12 and three more environmental petitions further down the list;

  • 1. Call a general election 3million signatures
  • 2. Suspend all immigration for 5 years 213,000 signatures
  • 3. WASPI women 156,000 signatures
  • 4. Don’t change inheritance tax on farms 149,000 signatures
  • 5. Tighten rules on political donations signatures 136,000
  • 6. Make 16 years the minimum age for children to have social media 126,000 signatures
  • 7. Don’t apply VAT to independent school fees 114,000 signatures
  • 8. Decriminalise abortion 90,000 signatures
  • 9. License use of fireworks 86,000 signatures
  • 10. Apply to join EU 88,000 signatures
  • 11. Raise the income tax allowance threshold 65,000 signatures
  • 12. Ban driven grouse shooting 62,000 signatures

  • 21. Ban fossil fuel advertising and sponsorship 36,000 signatures
  • 28. Run a public information campaign on climate crisis 23,000 signatures

Thanks to you, the ban driven grouse shooting petition is currently the highest-ranking environmental petition and is up there with issues such as taxation, immigration, social media, Brexit and, yes, fireworks. Wild Justice aims to keep that petition racing along (with occasional pauses while we do other things) and reach 100,000 signatures by 22 May.
